GOALS & OBJECTIVES

AAFRR serves as a platform for the collaboration and cooperation of individuals and organizations whose main focus is promotion of an agenda to sustain the steady progress of African Americans in the current political and economic environment of America today. The challenge is to build upon the leadership, strengths and experiences of African Americans whose historic contributions have helped shape a progressive agenda, and to address today’s critical issue of sustaining the progress achieved thus far.

Objectives- The Forum is working to strengthen the conversation among communities of color about metropolitan regional sustainability, environmental justice economic investments, strategic community development and equity.

The Forum's goals are to:

  • Network and broaden key constituencies, and share information regarding lessons learned about regional and metropolitan sustainability, regionalism, equity and smart growth issues and policy tools;

  • Strengthen the conversation among communities of color about metropolitan regional sustainability, community development; environmental justice and equity;

  • Address the challenges of collating community assets, shaping and setting a sustainable regional agenda and inclusion of African Americans in the discourse, planning and policy implementation;
  • Stimulate dialogue among key constituencies about differing experiences, definitions and benefits; and  create a place for constructive conversation and healthy relationship building that leads to recommendations on strategies, projects and effective programs.
